Barbara ‘Mother’ Hubbard honored on 95th birthday

LAS CRUCES – The Las Cruces community turned out in spades Wednesday evening to celebrate Barbara “Mother” Hubbard and raise money for her American Collegiate Talent Showcase program.

Hubbard is the former special events director for New Mexico State University and is credited with bringing in the biggest acts of the day, putting a relatively small college town in the entertainment spotlight. She’s known nationally as an icon of venue management business and has mentored myriad students who became major players behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.

At 95, Hubbard continues to work. She promoted a Journey concert within New Mexico earlier this year, helps teach a class in venue management at NMSU, continues to advocate for the building of an amphitheater that can host rodeos and concerts in southern New Mexico and heads a nonprofit that awards college scholarships to entertainers.
