Dr. Strange Writer Defends Pushing The Boundaries Of The PG-13 Rating

Did you know that, while movie ratings were introduced in 1968, the PG-13 rating wasn't added until 1984? All of the movies released into the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far have been rated PG-13, but some moviegoers are saying that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is pushing that rating to its absolute limit, which writer Michael Waldron defended this week in a new interview with io9.The Motion Picture Association reviews submitted films and rates them based on content, but these ratings are set by subjective people using evolving rules. Two people might rate a movie on the edge PG-13 and R, and two PG-13 films from two different eras might land very differently for a single viewer. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness takes our mystical hero and a new ...

Pokémon Legends Arceus Outsells Classics, Proves Risks Pay Off

Screenshot: NintendoAccording to the fiscal report that Nintendo released today, Pokémon Legends: Arceus sold 12.64 million units last year. While it doesn’t usurp Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s combined sales figure of 14.65 million, it’s nevertheless impressive for an original title that deviated so far from every mainline game in the series. Legends is currently sitting at number fifteen on the VGChartz list, directly under HeartGold and SoulSilver. It’s also sitting above Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and both FireRed and LeafGreen. Whether you think that Legends is a quirky experiment or a main Pokémon game, the sales figures solidly establish the open world monster-catcher as a giant among the classics. The rankings are especially wild when you consider how much controver...

Nintendo Expects Bayonetta 3 To Launch This Year, Metroid Prime 4 and Advance Wars Remakes Not So Much

Nintendo has released the financial results for its 2021-22 Fiscal Year today, which is where it revealed updated numbers for games like Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In it, the company sets expectations regarding upcoming releases.  According to Nintendo’s chart of its expected launch schedule, which you can see a screenshot of below, the Platinum Games-developed Bayonetta 3 is still aiming for a 2022 release on the Switch. That’s especially exciting because the game went dark after its 2017 reveal until last September, when it reemerged with a dazzling first-look gameplay trailer. Other 2022 releases Nintendo expects to actually hit this year include Mario Strikers: Battle Leag...

Review Roundup For Salt And Sacrifice

Salt and Sacrifice, the sequel to acclaimed 2016 indie Souls-like Salt and Sanctuary, released this week for the PC, PS4, and PS5, and reviews are starting to come out. Salt and Sacrifice retains many of the same features as its predecessor, featuring hand-drawn visuals and side-scrolling action, as well as adding new elements like a new multiplayer hub area.Early reviews are mixed to positive, with many reviewers saying the sequel unfortunately doesn't live up to the promise of its predecessor. Salt and Sacrifice currently sports an aggregated score of 73 on GameSpot sister site Metacritic, while the original Salt and Sanctuary has a "generally favorable" score of 84. Here's what critics are saying about the sequel. You need a javascript enabled browser to...

EA Is Once Again Developing A Lord Of The Rings Video Game

Image: EAI know licensing isn’t the sexiest topic, but when it comes to certain properties—like Star Wars and major sports—it plays a super important role in what games we get to play and who makes them. Which is my way of explaining why I’m writing about the surprise announcement that EA is making its first Lord of the Rings game since 2006.For all the shit people talk about EA in 2022, most of it for good reason, the publisher had a run in the 00's where they released a number of excellent Lord of the Rings games, like the brawler movie tie-ins, the cult Battle for Middle Earth series of strategy games and Third Age, a Final Fantasy clone that is a lot better than most people ever gave it credit for.So there’s a weird sense of nostalgia attached to the announcement today that, with the s...

How Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Sets Up What’s Next For The MCU

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit theaters Thursday and it’s doing quite well for Marvel Studios, scoring the biggest opening in 2022 thus far and claiming the 11th best domestic box office opening of all time. Critically, it’s been more divisive than one might guess, with many either being put off by how "Sam Raimi" the Doctor Strange sequel is or completely smitten with it as a result of the Evil Dead director’s style.  If you’ve seen the movie, you’ve likely noticed how unique it is in the pantheon of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. It features more horror elements than ever before, and it introduces a lot of new concepts and ideas to the MCU. In fact, I think Multiverse of Madness sets up where the MCU is ultimately going later in Phase 4 and beyond. To speak any furth...

F1 2022 Hands-On Preview – Malleable Racing Bliss

Thanks to the success of Netflix's Drive to Survive, the fervor surrounding Formula 1--the world's premiere racing category--has rarely been stronger. The sport has seen a huge influx of new fans, enjoying not only some of the best racing the sport has seen in over a decade, but also injecting a lot more meaning into the relationships between its teams and drivers off the track. In F1 2022, the latest entry in the franchise developed by custodians Codemasters, a delicate balance of catering to this new audience while also offering enhancements to returning simulation racing fans is evident and, based on some limited time I've had with the game, it seems to strike it quite well.In the preview version of F1 2022, I had access to all 10 teams and 20 cars on the grid along wit...

NYT Switches ‘Fetus’ Wordle Answer After Abortion Rights Attack

Photo: Stefani Reynolds (Getty Images)Today’s Wordle answer was supposed to be “fetus,” and for many it still was, despite The New York Times trying to pull the word ahead of time. In light of reports that the Supreme Court is currently slated to overturn Roe v. Wade and toss out abortion rights for millions along with it, the Greylady said its latest intervention into the popular puzzle game was to keep Wordle “distinct from the news.”According to a Monday blog post by The New York Times, “fetus” was pre-loaded as the correct Wordle answer for May 9, 2022 last year, and its current timing was “entirely unintentional and a coincidence.” Then last week, Politico reported on a leaked draft opinion showing the Supreme Court justices was preparing to dismantle nearly 50 years of federal protec...

The bundle, which will cost you $65, includes a Grookey plush, of course, with a sound chip that includes the Pokémon’s cry, a matching “Leaf Shirt,” and a “Leaf Cape.” It’s basically a Grookey plush with a Hawaiian shirt on, and it looks awesome.  “Get into the groove with Grookey,” the...

Wrestlemania Backlash 2022 Results, Review, And Live Match Card Updates For The WWE PPV

WWE's 2022 PPV Wrestlemania Backlash is in full effect. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins had a banger of a match to kick things off, and it may be one of the best WWE matches of the year so far. The show is nearing the halfway point, and you can check out the full results and a review for the PPV below, as it happens.Backlash features a few leftover feuds from Wrestlemania you'll see rematches of here. For instance, AJ Styles gets a second shot at Edge, but this time around, Damian Priest is barred from ringside, so hopefully, this will be a fair fight--it probably won't, and we'll probably see someone else join Edge's faction. Throughout the May 8 evening, GameSpot will have Wrestlemania Backlash results and a review of each match live. Check out everything you need to know a...
