CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Central Civitan Club held the 114th annual Lone Oak Picnic in Cunningham on Saturday. The area around the Civitan building on Highway 13 was packed with a little bit of everything for everyone. The biggest draws of the event, especially in a local election year, were the political candidates who came to meet with the public and voters.

With the Tennessee State Primary and Montgomery County General Election less than a week away, there were over two dozen candidates who briefly took the stage to talk to the gathered crowd.

The Lone Oak Picnic also featured live music from both the Back Lot Pickers and Jeff Akin. There was a car show, bounce houses, a silent auction, and a picnic.

The event is a fundraiser for the Central Civitan Club, which gives back to the community in many ways. Some of those include financial assistance to victims of house fires, along with support for Montgomery Central High, Middle and Elementary Schools and Cumberland Heights Elementary School. The club also donates to Cunningham and Palmyra Volunteer Fire Departments.

The Lone Oak Picnic returned this year after being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
