Packers vs. Saints odds, spread, line: 2022 NFL preseason Week 2 picks, prediction by expert on 50-17 roll

Lambeau Field will host a preseason tilt on Friday as part of the Week 2 NFL preseason schedule. The Green Bay Packers will welcome the New Orleans Saints for a matchup between NFC foes. Friday’s game is the second exhibition game for both sides, and each team lost its preseason opener last week. The Saints are trying to build on a 9-8 season last year, while the Packers will try to repeat their regular season success that led to a 13-4 performance behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. ET in Green Bay. Caesars Sportsbook lists the Packers as three-point home favorites, while the Over-Under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, is 39.5 in the latest Saints vs. Packers odds. Why the Saints can cover

The Saints have a battle going at the running back spot for insurance behind Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. Tony Jones Jr. is the incumbent, and the 24-year-old from Notre Dame rushed for 142 yards and made three starts last season. Devine Ozigbo is a three-year veteran from Nebraska with experience for the Jaguars and Saints. Dwayne Washington is the most veteran option with six years of experience and more than 600 career yards between Detroit and New Orleans. Finally, Abram Smith is a rookie from Baylor with flashing talent and intrigue.

All eyes will be on that backfield, and the Saints have a high-end backup quarterback in Andy Dalton to make it all work. The 11-year veteran is a three-time Pro Bowl selection with more than 35,000 career passing yards and logged six starts for the Chicago Bears last season. He also completed all five of his passes in the preseason opener.

Why the Packers can cover

The Packers have sky-high expectations this season based heavily on a quality defense and the presence of Aaron Rodgers. He is expected to sit this game out, but Green Bay has a former first round pick at the helm with Jordan Love. The talented signal-caller made two starts in the 2021 preseason, racking up more than 270 passing yards on 35 attempts. Love also made a start during the 2021 regular season and compiled 411 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air. Love is also a threat as a runner, and he has a talented group of wide receivers to work with.

Fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs has been one of the bigger stories in the NFL during the preseason, impressing observers on a regular basis. The former Nevada standout caught 225 passes for more than 3,300 yards at the college level, including an 1,100 yard season in 2021. Doubs can further cement himself with playing time with a big performance against New Orleans.
