Popcorn Theatre closes with cartoons

The zany antics of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky, Sylvester and more will fill the theatre when Tibbits Popcorn Theatre presents “Classic Cartoon Cavalcade” Aug. 5-6, featuring a selection of cartoons from the 1940s and 1950s.

All shows are held at Tibbits Opera House, 14 S. Hanchett, Coldwater.

Harking back even before the days of Saturday morning cartoons on TV, youth flocked to movie theaters, including Tibbits, to enjoy these cartoons on the big screen before their favorite serial, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon or The Lone Ranger. In its salute to yesteryear, Tibbits has compiled another collection of these memorable classic cartoons. Previous “Cartoon Cavalcades” have proven the timelessness of the stories in their ability to create pure joy and raucous laughter.

Seven shorts will entertain audiences in small doses that pack big punches. They include “One Froggy Evening” featuring a frog that sings and dances; “Jumpin’ Jupiter” wherein Porky and Sylvester’s campsite is towed into outer space; “Much Ado About Nutting,” in which a squirrel finds a particularly challenging nut; and “An Itch in Time” featuring Elmer Fudd, his poor pooch and a flea. Other shorts include “French Rarebit,” featuring Bugs Bunny; “Lumber Jerks,” about a pair of gophers preparing for winter; and “Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century,” starring Daffy Duck and Marvin Martian.
