Elden Ring Gets Free Colosseum DLC After Months Of Fans Begging

Could really use some help here.Screenshot: FromSoftwareThe wait is finally over if you’ve been dying for more Elden Ring content. Just days before The Game Awards, where fans have been (and probably should still be) speculating that developer FromSoftware would announce some sort of add-on for the game, the Japanese studio took to Twitter today to confirm that its most popular Soulslike will get some free DLC in the form of Colosseum, a PvP update coming to the game on December 7.The Colosseum Update will let you roam The Lands Between with a friend as you “prove your worth in various duels and battles, together or on your own.” It appears to let you enter a gladiator ring of sorts, in which you can set up bouts with your friends to see who is strong enough to become the true Elden Lord. ...

The Scariest Things That Happened In Gaming In 2022

Image: Warner Bros. / Devolver Digital / Bandai Namco / Innersloth / Kotaku / Mia Stendal / Bibadash (Shutterstock)On an average day, my friends might ask me how my job is going. I’ll smile, tell them “It’s going great,” and then launch into a story about one of the most fucked up things they’ve ever heard of. And now I get to give the recap to you.Spooky season is upon us, but the chronically online gamers at Kotaku know that terrifying shit is happening in our space all the time. It’s not just the games that are occasionally horrifying—it’s also how the industry grinds humans into dust, how giant corporations are increasingly looking to put the screws to the average consumer, and how abuse of power comes as no surprise. Some of the spookiest gaming news stories this year are sad. Some of...

The Fake Game Taking Over Batman Arkham Fandom, Explained

Image: Warner Bros. GamesThe best video games are imaginary. Often they exist completely in our heads, or in the dreamy space between their initial announcement and what we finally end up playing. This is where “Arkham World” exists. Born from a 2011 Video Game Awards gag, the completely fictitious entry in the massively popular Batman Arkham series is now all some fans can talk about.Earlier this month, posts about a supposed Arkham World began taking over the Batman Arkham subreddit. Despite being dedicated to an aging single-player series, this particular internet watering hole remains surprisingly active. It has over 150,000 members, with hundreds or more active at any given time. “This subreddit is dedicated to the discussion of all Batman Arkham Lore,” reads the subscription. “Includ...

Elden Ring Player Proves Faith Builds Rule With One Shot Kills

Elden Ring’s faith stat is pretty flexible to build around, particularly because developer FromSoftware baked so many incantations and spells into the game. Still, it tends to see very little use at high levels, as YouTuber Your Average Gamer put it in an email to Kotaku Dot Com, folks claim it’s not as good as other in-game stats like the health-defining vigor. In an effort to prove the masses wrong, Your Average Gamer took their ardent belief in faith and put it to the test. Not only did they take on the hardest difficulty possible, they also absolutely demolished a variety of bosses, including ones like Radagon and the Elden Beast, in a single attack. It’s nuts!Matthew “Your Average Gamer” Farnkopf is a YouTuber dedicated to putting together “crazy Elden Ring builds.” They’ve got a vide...

MIcrosoft Bug Says Elden Rings, GTA V Available On Game Pass

Image: Elden Ring / GTA VEarlier this week, some folks checking Microsoft’s Cloud Gaming beta website noticed something weird: listings for games like Elden Ring and Grand Theft Auto V not only said they were part of the company’s Game Pass offering, but would also be playable on the cloud. Here’s a screengrab of Elden Ring’s page taken by @klobrille, clearly showing both the “GAME PASS” badge and the fact that it’s playable on the Cloud Gaming beta:Listings for Grand Theft Auto V (which has already been on the service and left) and, weirdly, Soul Hackers revealed the same thing, in that none of the games had previously been available either on Game Pass or on Cloud Gaming, but now here they were. Even weirder is the fact that none of those things had ever been announced, which you’d think ...

Blaidd’s Elden Ring Voice Actor Reacts To Your Thirst Tweets

“Oh? Fine. Time to douse your little flame.”Image: Bandai Namco / Kotaku / RossHelen (Shutterstock)It’s not easy when your pining for the superior, virtual men in your favorite video game goes unnoticed. But rarely, once in a blue moon, a voice actor will provide solace to fans by acknowledging your appreciation for their characters. Today fans of Elden Ring’s breakout furry husband Blaidd the Half-Wolf are eating well, as his voice actor not only read y’alls’ terminally down-bad tweets for the NPC wolfman, but leaned into them with gusto. In a recent episode of BuzzFeed Multiplayer, Scott Arthur, the voice actor behind Blaidd set the record straight on how to properly pronounce the wolf-man’s name (it’s “Blithe”) and read some of y’alls’ best and worst thirst tweets.“I know that he’s cause...

True Elden Ring Lord Let Me Solo Her Kills Malenia 1K Times

“Rest now for all eternity, my Queen.”Screenshot: FromSoftware / Klein Tsuboi / KotakuWell, folks, he’s done it. Klein Tsuboi, the famed Elden Ring hero we’ve come to know as ‘Let Me Solo Her,’ has bodied one of the Lands Between’s hardest bosses more times than you or I ever could. In fact, LMSH took to YouTube on May 10 to livestream himself slaying the redheaded goddess Malenia, Blade of Miquella for the 1000th time to thousands of viewers. It’s a cool moment, one filled with adoration and praise from fans who have turned him into a celebrity.Tsuboi rose to prominence in r/EldenRing, the subreddit dedicated to FromSoftware’s latest Souls RPG, this past April.
