Washington — President Biden issued an executive order on Tuesday that aims to increase the number of background checks to buy guns, promote better and more secure firearms storage and ensure U.S. law enforcement agencies are getting the most out of a bipartisan gun control law enacted last summer. The Democratic president discussed his latest efforts at curbing gun violence in a speech from Monterey Park, California. The spate of gun violence seems to be taking its toll on parents and children alike. Parents are concerned about the safety of their children in schools and report feeling stressed, scared and angry — and many report that their children are feeling the same. Parents on both sides of the gun control debate express concern about their children's safety. Three in four parents of school-aged children are at least somewhat concerned about the possibility of gun violence at their children's school, including one in three who are very concerned. Daniel Defense, maker of gun used in Uvalde school shooting, withdraws from NRA convention

Daniel Defense, the manufacturer of a rifle used by the gunman in the deadly Uvalde elementary school shooting, said it has canceled its appearance at the annual NRA convention, which opened today in Houston. The Black Creek, Georgia-based company is one of several late withdrawals from the event, which is being held just days after a gunman killed 19 schoolchildren and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas,.
