Pro Gaming Champ Says He Peed In Bottle During $205K Tourney

Image: ValveWhen you gotta go, you really gotta go. I just wish that esports tournaments felt the same about letting their competitors use the toilet. Pro player Oliver “Skiter” Lepko peed in a bottle during an ongoing DOTA 2 tournament, citing the organizers’ rules against going to the toilet during a match. Here’s a photograph of the pee bottle for your…uhhh, enjoyment?DPC 2023 WEU Winter Tour Division 1 is a DOTA 2 tournament organized by the Romanian esports company PGL. Eight European teams compete against each other from January 9 to 29 for a prize pool of $200,000. But that’s not what you’re interested in. You want to know why a professional gamer was peeing in a bottle like he’s an Amazon delivery driver. Lepko told Jake Lucky that he would have incurred a level 2 draft penalty (wh...

12 Games To Play After You’ve Beaten Game Pass Hit High On Life

Image: InsomniacIf you want: no comedy and more FPS gameplay with experimental weaponsPlayable on: Resistance 3 is streamable via PS Plus. Resistance: Fall of Man is locked to PS3 (discs are pretty cheap on eBay)The PS3 had a number of shooters that I’d totally categorize as hidden gems. Killzone, SOCOM, the second iteration of Metal Gear Online, and the Resistance trilogy. While these alien-blasting shooters from Insomniac never reached the popular appeal of a Halo or Call of Duty, they are definitely worth your time if you want a shooter with an arsenal of strange guns that make great use of secondary fire functions. The first and third games are perhaps closest to High on Life since you have access to all your guns via a weapon wheel (the second Resistance game ditched this for a more t...

Indie Puzzler Baba Is You Gets Tax-Filing Spin-Off, Out Now

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Hempuli aka Arvi Teikari, the developer behind the adorably excellent push-puzzler Baba Is You. Well, Teikari is back with another game in the Baba-verse. This time, though, instead of pushing objects and altering the rules of reality, you are pushing tax papers in a short exercise of comedic relief. That’s right, the white little critter is doing their taxes in the aptly titled Baba Files Taxes.Read More: Baba Is You Is A Brilliant Puzzle GameThis new game, available for free on itch.io (Windows only), tasks you with helping the smol cat-dog thing get their taxes completed. There’s just one problem, though: the deadline to file is tonight! You’d better rush to get Baba’s paperwork done while there’s still time. What does this look like in practice...

17 Amazing Games You Probably Missed In 2022

Screenshot: Blazing Bit GamesFirst released in 2021, indie shooter Nightmare Reaper finally left Early Access this year, and that’s when I finally played it. And boy oh boy, am I happy I stumbled upon this under-the-radar FPS! Nightmare Reaper might look a lot like other, similar retro-inspired shooters—like the previously mentioned Cultic—that have become more common in recent years, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a roguelike with smart level progression, awesome music, and hundreds of powerful and zany weapons like whips and spell books. It’s a weird game, too. But in a good way. For example, to improve your character’s stats you play through different, elaborate Game Boy-like mini-games. It’s weird, it’s sometimes creepy, and it’s only $25 on Steam. Go play Nightmare Reaper! — Za...

Carolyn Petit’s Top 5 Games Of 2022

Photoshop is my true Elden Ring, and I haven’t gotten gud yet.Image: FromSoftware / KotakuIn recent years, it’s become harder and harder for me to make the kinds of in-depth, year-end personal best lists that I once prided myself on. That newfound difficulty is for one reason: I’m not playing as many games. This year, there are so many games I either didn’t play at all or didn’t spend enough time with that may have earned a place on this list if only I’d given them more of a chance. Those games include (but are not limited to) Perfect Tides, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pentiment, Citizen Sleeper, and Norco. I’m sorry I didn’t make time for you this year. I’m sure some of you, at least, are great. So I’m keeping this year’s list to a tight five, acknowledging that it might have looked very diffe...

Leaked GTA 6 Footage Gets Game Ad Purged By Take-Two

Rockstar and Take-Two are still doing all they can to contain the Grand Theft Auto VI leak.Image: Rockstar GamesGoat Simulator 3 developer Coffee Stain North has ended up under the thumb of Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two after posting an ad for its open-world havoc simulator that used footage from this year’s Grand Theft Auto VI leak. The video has since been removed from video platforms after a copyright claim, but those who managed to see the video before it was taken down (thanks, Eurogamer) say the ad featured a character named Shaun, who was being interviewed about working on Goat Simulator 3 and bragging about his skills in animating ragdoll physics. However, the video took a turn when Shaun spoke of work he’d done outside Goat Simulator 3, to which he said, “I’ve other stuff in t...

The Secret To Training Powerful Pokémon In Scarlet And Violet

Terastallizing isn’t the only way to power up a Pokémon.Screenshot: The Pokémon Company / KotakuFor most players, Pokémon games are a pretty straightforward affair of attacking enemies’ weaknesses and scoring that sweet one-shot. But Pokémon can become incredibly overwhelming once you start playing competitively. What’s an IV? What’s an EV, if not the cute brown fox who can evolve into a bunch of other, more colorful and elaborate foxes? In fact, they refer to hidden numbers and background math that competitive players like to tweak and manipulate to create the strongest versions of their favorite ‘mons. EV and IVs stand for Effort Values and Individual Values. These hidden numbers determine the final state of a Pokémon’s six stats, and understanding how they work and how to influence them ...

Elden Ring Gets Free Colosseum DLC After Months Of Fans Begging

Could really use some help here.Screenshot: FromSoftwareThe wait is finally over if you’ve been dying for more Elden Ring content. Just days before The Game Awards, where fans have been (and probably should still be) speculating that developer FromSoftware would announce some sort of add-on for the game, the Japanese studio took to Twitter today to confirm that its most popular Soulslike will get some free DLC in the form of Colosseum, a PvP update coming to the game on December 7.The Colosseum Update will let you roam The Lands Between with a friend as you “prove your worth in various duels and battles, together or on your own.” It appears to let you enter a gladiator ring of sorts, in which you can set up bouts with your friends to see who is strong enough to become the true Elden Lord. ...

Broforce Returns In 2023 With Broforce Forever, A Big Update

Image: BroforceHave you ever played Broforce? Or even heard of it? You’d be forgiven for answering “no” to both those questions because, as I flip tragically backwards through my desktop calendar, I can see that the game came out eight years ago.I absolutely loved it back then, not just for its “you can’t sue us these are technically different” roster of characters (all drawn from popular action movies and TV shows, mostly from the 80s, ranging from Die Hard to Rambo to The Terminator to Aliens) but for its gleefully explosive platforming, which played like Metal Slug if the level designers had chugged five beers before going to work and thought blowing up half the levels was the best idea ever (it is). When evil threatens the world, the world calls on Broforce – an under-funded, over-pow...

Scarlet/Violet’s 1,000th Pokémon Looks Like A Crypto Mascot

The mad lads at GameFreak have done it again. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet push the series’ overall Pokédex into four figures, and the special 1,000th Pokémon turns out to be a gold coin surfing freak with a fanny pack called Gholdengo. Is it going to sell me crypto? Is it made of crypto?? I can’t wait to find out.I first learned about the Gholdengo from IGN, who noted the coin entity’s striking resemblance to a General Mills cereal mascot but was otherwise effusive in its praise. Gholdengo, it turns out, is the evolved form of Gimmighoul, a Dungeons & Dragons-style mimic chest revealed by Nintendo earlier in the month. How that evolution takes place is the real magic. YouTuber nickcucc described it as, “Probably one of the most tedious yet rad evolutions you’ll ever experience in your e...
